Junior Technical Artist

September 2020 - December 2022

Tesla

Technical Artist @ Tesla Design Studio (Los Angeles)
July 2025 - Present

As the Sole Technical Artist on the HMI 3D Visualization team, my role was to drive the technical execution, optimization, and cross-engine implementation of all 3D assets for real-time vehicle visualization deployed across the production fleet. My work is shipped globally through over-the-air software updates.

Art & Asset Development

  • Vehicle Visualization: Owned the full 3D vehicle asset for HMI visualization for Model 3 and Model Y standard variants, focusing on interior modeling, texturing, and select exterior updates for production.

  • Disney Collaboration (Tron Mode): Core contributor for a high-profile collaboration. Responsible for optimization, rigging, look development, and game engine integration of high-resolution scanned Disney assets for real-time automotive deployment.

  • Real-time FX & Environment: Delivered production-ready textures, shaders, lighting, VFX, rigs, and animations, including the first animated character integrated into the HMI parked view. Developed a custom sky system and terrain shader to achieve cinematic-quality visuals within real-time constraints.

  • Holiday & Themed Assets: Modeled, textured, rigged, and integrated holiday-themed 3D assets for Autopilot visualization, including props, traffic elements, and upgraded Santa Mode assets (characters, animations, and new sleigh models) across Godot and Unreal Engine.

Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Primary Technical Authority: Acted as the main technical authority for real-time 3D vehicle visualization within the in-vehicle HMI.

  • Engine Integration: Owned the technical execution, optimization, and integration of production assets across both Godot and Unreal Engine, balancing visual fidelity with automotive performance constraints.

  • Custom Wraps Implementation: Led the technical implementation of the Custom Wraps feature, expanding a previously exclusive feature to all Tesla vehicle platforms.

  • Migration: Migrated legacy vehicle visualization assets from the Godot engine to Unreal Engine for Model S and Model X, a major architectural upgrade, which included authoring master paint materials and updating HDRI lighting and interior textures.

Pipeline & Optimization

  • Process Definition: Worked closely with engineering partners to define pipelines, validate new features, and migrate legacy systems, influencing long-term architectural strategy.

  • Optimization: Focused on real-time optimization and cross-engine implementation to ensure performance on the production vehicle hardware.

  • Public Resources: Designed official custom wraps and license plate designs, and authored public-facing templates for owners to create their own wraps, available on the official Tesla GitHub: https://github.com/teslamotors/custom-wraps.
